Pruning Day at Florida Southern College

  • Florida Southern College 111 Lake Hollingsworth Drive Lakeland, FL, 33801 United States (map)

Rose novices and experienced rosarians alike are invited to join Stephen alongside Dr. Malcolm Manners, FSC students and friends in giving Ruth’s Rose Garden it’s annual Spring pruning. Stephen’s hands-on pruning workshops will kick off the all-volunteer event on the Frank Lloyd Wright campus of Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida.

Ruth’s Rose Garden was designed by Stephen and showcases roses of all ages and classes among 300 rose plants, including Chinas, teas, Noisettes, hybrid perpetuals, damasks, species and "mysteries," as well as modern rose hybrids suitable for the central Florida climate.

Come to learn or to share your best tips and techniques for pruning and training many types of rose shrubs, climbers and ramblers. Tools will be available, or bring your own. We'll start around 9:00am and work until finished or exhausted.

Groups such as rose societies, garden clubs and master gardener groups are welcome to come pitch in for all or any part of the day. We can make suggestions for lodging, restaurants, etc. Please email Dr. Malcolm Manners malcolmmanners@me.com if you plan to join us. We hope to see you there!
